No timetable for Bío Bío repair work - Enap
Chilean state oil company Enap's Aconcagua refinery should be back in operation by next week, but there is no set timetable for the resumption of service at the Bío Bío refinery, Enap CEO Rodrigo Azócar told journalists in Santiago.
Both refineries were shut immediately following Saturday morning's 8.8 magnitude earthquake, according to Enap.
Enap attributed the problems to structural damage and operational disruptions related to power cuts.
Energy minister Marcelo Tokman insisted that fuel supply was secure and that there was no need for panic.
"Aconcagua looks like repairs should be over this week, and we are still assessing the damage in the case of Bío Bío," Tokman told journalists on Tuesday afternoon after an emergency meeting with various government officials.
"But in terms of stock we are fine. We've also made progress in terms of individual service stations. The situation here is, again, not availability, but how to get the fuel to the area where it is needed," he said.
LNG supply from the Quintero and Mejillones plants remained normal, despite reports of minor damage at Quintero.
Tokman said that Argentina had increased natural gas exports to Chile since the quake struck.
The Aconcagua refinery refines 100,000b/d. The Bío Bío refinery near the quake's epicenter in Concepción sends out approximately 116,000b/d.
