Enap has sufficient supply for at least a month - minister
Chile's state oil company Enap has sufficient fuel supply to last through March despite having to shut its Aconcagua and Bío Bío refineries after last week's 8.8 magnitude earthquake, mining minister Santiago González was quoted as saying in local press.
"That is guaranteed," the minister said.
The damaged refineries process about 225,000b/d, or about 80% of the country's demand.
Enap said earlier in the week that there was no timetable for the return to operations at the Bío Bío plant, which is located near the quake's epicenter in Concepción. The Aconcagua refinery should be back online by next week.
An industry official told BNamericas that Enap could guarantee supply for many months.
"Enap has always imported fuel as back up for what it can't refine," the official said. "Now we see that it was with good reason."
The problem facing the country one week after the massive quake remained distribution, especially in affected areas.
Approximately 75% of all service stations were operating by Friday, according to reports.
