Colbún reports normal operations after earthquake

Chilean generator Colbún suffered only minor damages to its facilities from the massive earthquake that hit Chile last week and expects all repairs to be completed shortly, the company said in a statement to securities regulator SVS.

"The generation, transmission and transformation facilities of the company are in good operating condition and available to supply power at the request of the economic load dispatch center of the central SIC grid," the company said in the letter.

Operations are limited at a mining substation in region VI, and there is a connection failure between the 20MW Chiburgo hydro in region VII and a Colbún substation. Both are expected to be repaired by next week, according to the company.

New generation projects including the Santa María I thermo plant and hydroelectric plants San Clemente and San Pedro saw no physical damage after preliminary inspections. Construction, however, was temporarily suspended to ensure proper safety conditions, according to the generator.

Colbún is the second largest power generator in Chile, representing 25% of installed capacity on the SIC grid.
